The European Union law that abolishes "roaming" tariffs for persons traveling outside the borders has entered into force on Thursday.
New rules show who travels within the bloc, can call, send messages and search online with his cell phone by not paying more than he pays in his country. For the European Commission, the end of roaming tariffs is one of the biggest successes of the EU. The initiative was welcomed by the European public.
Scottish musician Charlie Wild said: "It's fantastic. I spend two weeks out of three pounds a day to use the phone and now I do not have to. It is a miracle".
However, a group of British consumers named "Which" warns that mobile phone users may face unforeseen charges. Up to now, with roaming, the price was increased by the cost of calls, sms or internet surfing when citizens of a block country traveled to another and connected there with the mobile phone network. In some cases, users of the latter have been billed to hundreds of pounds because, for example, they downloaded a movie.
The organization "Which" says overcoming the allowed time, the number of sms or the use of data can be billed.
